The Grand Mercure brand, part of the Accor group, has expanded its presence in Indonesia with the opening of Grand Mercure Batam Centre, marking the first Grand Mercure hotel in the city.

The hotel offers 230 rooms and suites designed with regional cultural elements, including the Batik Gonggong motif, which is reflected in the attire of the hotel staff.

The site also includes a range of leisure amenities, encompassing a fitness centre, a swimming pool, a spa, and a kids’ club.

The Batam property is also equipped with versatile spaces to host business and social events, including the Rarantira Grand Ballroom that can house up to 1,200 guests.

Other meeting rooms are designed with modern technology and natural light to cater to various corporate needs.

Accor Asia premium, midscale and economy division chief operating officer Garth Simmons said: “The opening of Grand Mercure Batam Centre strengthens our presence in a key gateway city for regional travel.

“Batam continues to evolve as a vibrant leisure and business destination, and we are proud to introduce a hotel that blends modern comfort with authentic local experiences. This opening reaffirms our commitment to cultural resonance and hospitality excellence across Indonesia.”

The new hotel is five minutes from the Batam Centre International Ferry Terminal and adjacent to One Batam Mall.

Grand Mercure Batam Centre general manager Samian Rais said: “We are proud to introduce a property that celebrates the stories, flavours and traditions of the Riau Islands.

“Our dedicated team looks forward to welcoming guests with genuine Indonesian hospitality, helping them experience a deeper connection to Batam and its people.”

The Grand Mercure network, which entered the Asia Pacific region nearly two decades ago, now consists of over 80 hotels across more than ten countries.

Earlier this year, Accor also expanded the footprint of its Mercure brand in Indonesia with a new hotel in East Java.
