Hospitality group Hilton is continuing its expansion in Germany by signing a franchise agreement to open new property in Heidelberg’s city centre.

The agreement comes ahead of this year’s International Hotel Investment Conference (IHIF).

Located at Kurfuersten-Anlage 1, Heidelberg, the upscale hotel is just walking distance away from Heidelberg’s baroque old town and the historic Heidelberg Castle.

Hilton Heidelberg, which is owned by Invesco Real Estate, is set to undergo a major renovation programme.

It will open its doors for guests in summer 2022 after completing refurbishment.

Invesco Real Estate hotel assets management senior director Hans-Peter Hermann said: “Invesco Real Estate is investing in refurbishing and repositioning the hotel into a market leader benefiting from the Hilton brand.

“Our investment programme for the Hilton Heidelberg is targeting a BREEAM in Refurbishment certificate, complementing its ESG strategic priority focus across its entire hotel portfolio.”

The hotel will feature 244 guest rooms and suites, a restaurant, bar and executive lounge and a gym.

Hilton Heidelberg will boast seven meeting rooms, which offers over 550m2 of space.

This year, the European portfolio of Hilton will see the addition of nearly 40 properties. This will include welcoming new hotels in Dusseldorf, Stuttgart and Konstanz, Germany.

The company also has plans to open Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, under Curio Collection by Hilton, next month.

In June this year, DoubleTree by Hilton opened its first hotel in Germany in Frankfurt.

Hilton EMEA development senior vice-president Patrick Fitzgibbon said: “Hilton Heidelberg is an exciting addition to our growing portfolio in Germany and builds on the significant momentum in conversion demand for our brands.

“More and more owners are choosing to affiliate with our upscale and collection brands, a testament to the strength of Hilton’s commercial systems and international brand awareness.”

In July this year, Hilton announced plans to open Hilton Singapore Orchard in Singapore in January 2022.
