Iberostar Hotels and Resorts has opened a sustainable family resort, Iberostar Selection Albufera, in Majorca, Spain.

The property, which opened this month, intends to introduce its all-inclusive model to Spain, which the company has been serving in the Caribbean for over three decades.

This resort is intended to meet the demanding sustainability criteria Iberostar supports throughout its global operations and hotels.

The property has been developed following an extensive renovation of two of the company’s hotels: Alcudia’s Bay: Iberostar Selection Albufera Park and Iberostar Selection Albufera Playa.

The renovation commenced in 2022 and covered all the resort’s facilities, including the 600 guest rooms, the common and recreational and also the ten bars and restaurants.

The property currently employs around 400 people in Palma de Majorca.

Iberostar Group CRO Fernando García said: “During the renovation process, which involved a large volume of local suppliers, we have reused, donated and recycled the materials and waste generated, aligned with the circular economy principles that Iberostar advocates to ensure the sustainability of our operations.

“With this transformation, we hope to satisfy guests seeking a complete holiday experience while meeting the highest quality standards.”

The Iberostar Selection Albufera resort includes roof solar panels and incorporates renewable energy to minimise CO₂ emissions, which aligns with Iberostar’s strategy to decarbonisation by 2030.

It has installed induction hobs in one of its buffets, replacing gas burners. The amenities have been restored with recycled and eco-friendly materials.

Furthermore, the company has chosen local plant species to save water use and it has also deployed an innovative AI-based food control system that aids in waste reduction.
