IHG Hotels & Resorts has expanded its avid hotels portfolio in Mexico with the opening of a new property in the Otay area.
The property is a ten-minute drive from the airport and is in proximity with major destinations including the Otay Shopping Centre, the New Peninsula Mall, the Rio Zone, and the Cultural Centre.
The avid hotel Tijuana Otay is owned by Flecha Amarilla and operates under a licence agreement with IHG.
IHG Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean chief operating officer Jorge Apaez said: “It is very gratifying for me to share the property’s opening with Flecha Amarilla as our business partners because it represents the joint work of two companies committed to developing the tourism infrastructure that’s so critical for Mexico’s economy.
“The avid hotels brand is disruptive and exciting, with clear differentiators that deliver superior quality, which I am sure will quickly position it as a favourite for travellers in Tijuana, as well other cities in the country where it will soon be available.”
The five-story hotel boasts 126 rooms, free high-speed Wi-Fi, fitness centre and business centre with PC.
In addition, avid hotel Tijuana Otay offers complimentary grab-and-go breakfast with a number of brand-name grab-and-go options, including a hot breakfast item and fresh bean-to-cup coffee.
The new hotel marks the second avid property in Mexico after the opening of the first one in Fresnillo, Zacatecas in 2020.
The brand, which is part of IHG’s Essentials Collection, has 12 projects currently underway in cities like Guadalajara, Querétaro, and Mazatlán.
Last month, the brand made its debut in the US state of Illinois with the opening of avid hotel Chicago O’Hare – Des Plaines.
