Currently in the later stages of construction with interior works in progress, the 107‑room hotel is scheduled to open before the end of the year.
voco Muar will be IHG’s second hotel under the voco flag in Malaysia, following the opening of the country’s first voco in Kuching in June.
The property is situated within KCC City Business Park, a development owned and built by KCC Holdings Group.
The property will include food and beverage outlets, meeting and function rooms, an infinity pool, a gym and a ballroom.
KCC Hotel (Muar) executive director Ker Soon Yong said: “We are proud to partner with IHG to introduce voco Muar, the first international‑branded hotel in the town.
“Located within our KCC City Business Park, it will play an important role in elevating the local hospitality offering and supporting both business and leisure travel.
“We believe this is the right time to introduce a hotel that offers world-class hospitality while embracing the unique charm and character of Muar.”
The development also marks IHG’s first presence in Johor.
IHG Southeast Asia and Korea managing director Vivek Bhalla said: “The signing of voco Muar marks an important step in our strategy to expand into Malaysia’s high-growth secondary and tertiary markets.
“As travel demand continues to broaden beyond primary gateway cities, we see strong opportunity in destinations such as Muar where a rich cultural heritage, growing economic activity and leisure attractions come together to create a vibrant destination.”
The agreement builds on the global expansion of the voco hotels brand, which now counts 137 operating properties worldwide, including recent additions in Southeast Asia such as voco Bangkok Surawong, voco Bandung Setiabudi and voco Scenia Bay Nha Trang.
In Malaysia, voco Muar will be IHG’s second hotel under the voco flag, following the opening of the country’s first voco in Kuching in June.
