IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of voco Seoul Myeongdong in South Korea.

This will be the second voco hotel in South Korea, following the launch of the voco Seoul Gangnam in 2022.

The 576-room property, set to open in mid-2024, will be rebranded under the voco flag, IHG’s fastest-growing premium brand.

The hospitality company said voco Seoul Myeongdong will offer guests a “thoughtful, unstuffy, and charming experience,” aligned with the brand’s core values of “come on in,” “me time” and “voco life.”

The hotel is a result of a new partnership between IHG, first-time partner Hotel HDC, and Gravity Asset Management’s Seoul South Gate Hotel Operations Company.

“This is a great example of the impressive growth opportunities we’re seeing in South Korea, where we’re eager to build upon the success of voco Seoul Gangnam, which introduced the brand to the market in 2022, since when it’s been captivating guests with its unique character and charm,” said James Oh, Korea representative for IHG Hotels & Resorts, in a statement.

“With the increasing demand for upscale hotels in the country, we look forward to bringing voco’s distinctive lifestyle experience to a growing number of domestic and international travellers, and introducing more IHG brands, including Kimpton and Hotel Indigo, to the market.”

voco Seoul Myeongdong is situated in the heart of Myeongdong, a vibrant district popular with both business and leisure travellers.

It offers convenient access to the business district, Deoksugung Palace, City Hall, Myeongdong’s shopping street and Namdaemun market.

The hotel offers an all-day dining restaurant, versatile meeting spaces exceeding 140 square metres, an indoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, a business centre and a lounge.

Since its launch in 2018, voco has grown rapidly, with 62 hotels open and 74 in the pipeline. The brand offers guests a premium experience, balancing the charm of an independent hotel with the backing of a global brand.

This signing reinforces voco’s goal of reaching 200 properties in key urban and leisure destinations by 2028. IHG currently operates nine hotels across four brands in South Korea, with three additional properties under development.
