Global hospitality company Hilton, in collaboration with Mitsubishi Estate and TBS Holdings, has revealed the development of the third Canopy brand hotel in Japan.
The new Canopy by Hilton Tokyo Akasaka hotel will welcome guests in 2028, marking the brand’s introduction to Tokyo and the broader Kanto region of Japan.
Hilton Japan, Korea and Micronesia head and area vice-president Joseph Khairallah said: “We are truly honoured to announce the signing of Canopy by Hilton Tokyo Akasaka in partnership with Mitsubishi Estate and TBS.
“In recent years, demand for lifestyle brands has been increasing in the hotel market. By introducing the Canopy by Hilton brand in Tokyo, one of the world’s top destinations, we will be able to cater to the diverse needs of our guests.”
Canopy by Hilton Tokyo Akasaka will occupy several floors of a mixed-use building within the Akasaka 2-Chome and 6-Chome District Development Plan’s west block.
Spearheaded by TBS and Mitsubishi Estate, the mixed-use development project aims to include a blend of commercial spaces, theatres, offices, and hotels, all anchored by direct access to Akasaka Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line.

“With the first entry of the Canopy by Hilton brand in the Kanto region, we aim to further enhance the charm of the area, including its history and culture.”
The hotel is set to feature 174 guest rooms, including 24 suites, with most rooms being approximately 31m² in size.
Guests will have the choice of two dining venues, including a restaurant and bar, and a terrace café offering views of Akasaka.
The property will also provide a 77m² meeting lounge and a 24-hour fitness room, enhancing the guest experience with a range of amenities.
Strategically located, Canopy by Hilton Tokyo Akasaka will offer convenient access to Tokyo’s business districts and tourist attractions.
The lower floors of the building will house theatres and halls, and plans are underway to provide limousine bus services to and from airports, further emphasising the hotel’s appeal to both business and leisure travellers.
With the new addition, the Canopy portfolio currently includes more than 40 properties in 13 countries and territories.
This announcement follows the recent introduction of Hilton’s luxury brand, Waldorf Astoria, to Japan with a new hotel in Osaka.
