Property development company LAK Real Estate is set to begin the construction of the largest hotel in Finland next month.

The hotel will be located next to Terminal 2 of renewed Helsinki Airport with direct access to the terminal and airport train station.

It will feature more than 700 rooms under two different brands.

Additionally, the property will include five restaurants, a rooftop sky bar, spa and gym facilities. It will also have extensive meeting and conference facilities.

LAK Real Estate CEO Ilkka Pitkänen said: “It is really exciting to take forward the development of such a large and significant hotel project with a superior location.

“The hotel will serve not only tourists but also all businesses operating at Aviapolis, the fastest growing business district in Finland with over 2,000 national and international companies next to the Helsinki Airport.”

The hotel is expected to open in 2024.

The 13-storey hotel is designed by SARC Architects, while Skanska will serve as the contractor for the project.

Overall, the project will involve an investment of more than $140m (€120m).

Upon completion, the hotel structure will be operated by Nordic Choice Hotels.

Nordic Choice Hotel owner Petter Stordalen said: “It feels fantastic that we are now taking the next step in the construction of the two terminal hotels at the airport.

“This will give airport visitors new opportunities to tailor their accommodation or create a conference experience that exceeds expectations. I look forward to the double hotel opening in 2024.”
