Marriott International’s Gaylord Hotels has launched the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center in partnership with RIDA Development.

This marks the first Gaylord Hotels property in California, US, and the sixth in the brand’s portfolio, representing a $1.3bn investment in the sector.

Situated on the San Diego Bay, the hotel offers 1,600 guest rooms, including 89 suites, and from 389ft² to 623ft² for standard guest rooms.

Accommodations at the property include six luxury suites, ten presidential suites, and two penthouse presidential suites, each offering 3,254ft² of space and a private furnished balcony.

The penthouse suites are equipped with a living room, kitchenette, bar, dining table, and a spa-inspired soaking tub in the master bedroom.

Designed to cater to a variety of events, Gaylord Pacific provides 477,000ft² of indoor and outdoor space, which includes 67 breakout rooms and four ballrooms.

The California Ballroom & Exhibit Hall alone spans 140,049ft², making it the largest convention centre and ballroom in any California hotel.

The property also features 12 unique dining outlets and a 4.25-acre waterpark offering waterslides, multiple pools, a lazy river, and bookable cabanas and lounge chairs.

This waterpark complements the dining experience with two dedicated restaurants, Shallow End Grill and Sunny’s, catering to guests of all ages.

Additional offerings at Gaylord Pacific encompass the Relâche Spa & Salon, a 7,500ft² fitness centre, and bicycle rentals for exploring the local area.

Gaylord Hotels vice president and managing director Johann Krieger said: “Bringing our signature all-under-one-roof experience and expertise, bringing people together for extraordinary experiences to the West Coast for the first time is a proud moment for our team and a meaningful expansion of our portfolio.

“This opening celebrates a decade-long collaboration with the City of Chula Vista and the Port of San Diego, and we’re excited to become part of this vibrant community.”

This opening follows the announcement of Old Hickory Steakhouse’s reopening at Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Maryland, in April 2023.

In December 2015, Marriott International secured a $500m loan to establish Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Centre in Aurora, Colorado.
