The property will increase Meliá’s footprint in Italy to 18 properties.

In a statement, Meliá Hotels International said the expansion “reinforces its presence” in Italy’s luxury market.

The planned five-star hotel will include between 80 and 90 rooms.

Facilities will comprise a food and beverage offering, a 400m² wellness and fitness centre, meeting and event areas, and an outdoor swimming pool.

Meliá Hotels International chairman and CEO Gabriel Escarrer said: “The Meliá Collection was created to celebrate the individuality of extraordinary destinations, and Lerici embodies that vision perfectly.

“We are delighted to add this exceptional property to our portfolio and to continue expanding our presence in Italy alongside valued partners such as SoGes Group.

“This hotel will invite guests to discover one of the most authentic and evocative corners of the Italian coast through experiences that are thoughtfully crafted, immersive and deeply connected to the destination.”

Last month, Meliá Hotels International announced plans to expand its footprint in Vietnam with the country’s first property under The Meliá Collection brand.

The Ocaria Retreat Mui Ne, Member of Meliá Collection, is expected to open in 2029. The resort will comprise 187 units, including 156 guestrooms and 31 villas.

The company also entered the Hungarian market this year with the opening of Hotel President Budapest.
