It will be located on Via XX Settembre, and will feature 67 guest rooms, an on-site restaurant, a bar, a rooftop lounge, and a wellness facility.

The company said that the property will be designed to serve both domestic visitors and international travellers.

The development strengthens Meliá’s growth in the premium and luxury hospitality segments, the company said in a statement.

For Gruppo Stay, the initiative forms part of its domestic expansion, targeted at prime assets in prominent international destinations.

The venture marks the third partnership between the two entities, building on previous joint projects including the Auronzo Dolomites Affiliated by Meliá and Pozza di Fassa Dolomiti Affiliated by Meliá properties in the Italian market.

Gruppo Stay founder and owner Andrea Franceschi said: “This project represents a major milestone for us. Rome is one of the most important destinations for the tourism industry and, at the same time, a highly attractive strategic market.

“This addition will strengthen our position in the Italian hotel sector and allow us to further expand our presence in urban hospitality with an exceptional property in the heart of the capital.

“We are also delighted to be developing this project together with Meliá Hotels International, a partner with whom we have built a strong and successful relationship and who brings significant value to the project.”

Meliá currently has 19 hotels either trading or in the development pipeline across Italy, including a second site in Rome.

Meliá Hotels International chairman and CEO Gabriel Escarrer said: “Rome is a natural addition to The Meliá Collection and a key destination in our growth strategy for the luxury segment.

“We are particularly pleased to be entering the city together with Gruppo Stay, a partner with whom we already share two projects in Italy, and whose confidence we greatly appreciate as we continue to build our presence in the country together.”
