International hospitality owner and operator Minor Hotels has unveiled plans to introduce its Tivoli Hotels & Resorts brand to Mexico with the Tivoli Mérida Residences.
Slated for an early 2027 opening, this venture will bolster Minor’s expansion and establish Tivoli’s third presence in Latin America, complementing its two existing Brazilian properties.
The five-star Tivoli Mérida Residences will be situated in Mérida’s Paseo Montejo district, celebrated for its colonial architecture and status as the Yucatán Peninsula’s financial hub.
With proximity to Mérida International Airport, the resort will feature 69 branded private residences, alongside amenities such as a restaurant, outdoor pool and bar, a gym, spa, and landscaped gardens.
The initiative is a component of the Casona 333 complex, a historical monument dating back to 1903 that has undergone restoration to accommodate the resort’s main reception, dining facilities, a boulangerie, bar, piano lounge, and spaces for private events.
Designia, a real estate developer with expertise in southeastern Mexico, owns the development.
Minor Hotels Europe & Americas CEO Gonzalo Aguilar said: “We are delighted to announce the arrival of our Tivoli brand in Mexico, thus entering a new market beyond the brand’s traditional areas of operation. In addition, we do so with the security of working with Designia, which has a deep knowledge of the market and understands this type of residential projects.”
The Palace Company founder and CEO José Chapur Zahoul has been instrumental in promoting hotel growth in the region. He is also the principal partner in the recent opening of Avani Cancún in Mexico.
Zahoul said: “The arrival of Tivoli Mérida Residences marks a milestone in the consolidation of Mexico as a privileged destination for major hotel brands. The cultural and architectural wealth of Yucatán finds in Tivoli an ideal partner that, with its track record and excellence in hospitality, will enhance the appeal of Mérida internationally.”
Minor Hotels manages 18 properties in Mexico and Cuba, including the NH Collection Mérida Paseo Montejo and Avani Cancún, through its Avani, NH Collection, and NH brands.
Founded in 1933 in Portugal, Tivoli Hotels & Resorts has expanded its global presence with entries into Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands during the past few years.
The brand is planning further expansions in Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
In April 2023, Minor Hotels announced the growth of its Avani brand in Europe and Latin America with seven new properties, including five in Europe, located in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy.
