By GlobalDataThe resort is located in a remote tropical rainforest, which lies outside the UNESCO Gunung Mulu National Park and near the Melinau River.
Marriott reinvented the former 20-year-old Royal Mulu Resort to create the 101-room resort, which is inspired by the ‘Marriott Modern’ design philosophy.
The resort features wooden walkways to connect groups of rooms, a River Bar, 1,000 square meters of functional event space that can accommodate 200 guests, a 15-meter lap swimming pool, a multi-functional room and a riverfront garden.
It also features a gymnasium and two restaurants, which includes the River Bar that overlooks the Melinau River and the M-Cafe.
The redesigned resort offers spacious rooms and suites with private balconies, and features elegant design and décor.
Marriott International Malaysia market vice-president Robert Stark said: "Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa is an exciting addition to the Marriott Hotel portfolio.
"This property embodies the brand’s drive to enable its guests to travel brilliantly. Mulu is such a unique destination and has a great potential for hospitality growth, making it a second-to-none choice for the Marriott Hotels brand.
"The Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa will set new standards in offering guests a rejuvenating resort experience, a respite from hustling and bustling life."
