Japan-based Okura Nikko Hotel Management,  a subsidiary of Hotel Okura, has plans to open Hotel Nikko Phnom Penh in the Cambodian capital in 2022.

The hotel will be located in the upper level of the Japan Trade Center, which is currently under construction.

The firm expects to sign a contract on 25 December with UY United to manage the new property, following an investment in that company by URATA.

This would be the first major complex in Phnom Penh to be developed by a Japanese firm.

This hotel is expected to serve as a networking base for overseas businesses.

Okura Nikko Hotel Management CEO Marcel P van Aelst said: “It is a big honor for us to be able to be part of this project, an undertaking which will introduce Japanese construction techniques to Cambodia. We aim to create a hotel which will act as a bridge between the two countries, and imbue it with our signature hospitality, rooted in Japanese culture.”

It will house a wide range of restaurants, including Japanese cuisine and all-day dining, and a skydeck bar on the 23rd floor.

Hotel Nikko Phnom Penh is part of Okura Nikko’s strategy to expand its global portfolio to 100 properties, especially in Asia, by 2020.
