Indian hospitality tech platform OYO is set to add 500 new hotels over the next three months to meet the expected surge in booking demand for the upcoming ICC men’s cricket world cup to be held in the country from 5 October 2023.

The hotels will be included in the cities where the matches will be held, the New Indian Express reported.

They will be strategically situated close to the stadiums to offer easy access for cricket enthusiasts.

Travel demand automatically rises after the announcement of dates for a cricket match is made and prices of hotel rooms have already shot up because of the increased demand in the host cities ahead of three months of the tournament, according to an unnamed spokesperson for OYO.

The spokesperson was quoted by the agency saying: “We want to ensure that everyone who is travelling from far away to watch their favourite teams has access to comfortable and affordable accommodation.”

The company also noted that it has seen a significant increase in demand for the entire period of the tournament.

The upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will end on 19 November 2023, will be held in the Indian cities of Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Delhi, Dharamsala, Chennai, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata and Pune.

Separately, online travel services provider MakeMyTrip has introduced an initiative to allow residents in the host cities to include their property on its platform because of an increase in demand for homestays in Ahmedabad, Dharamshala and major metros in India.
