Radisson Hotel Group has opened its first verified net-zero hotel in Manchester, UK, meeting the 2040 requirements of the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels.

Situated near the AO Arena and Manchester Victoria train station, the newly refurbished Radisson hotel offers 252 Scandinavian-inspired guest rooms and suites, along with a bar, restaurant, and outdoor terrace.

The hotel caters to both leisure and business visitors, featuring amenities such as a spa, heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, gym, and event facilities for up to 220 attendees.

Showcasing Radisson’s focus on sustainable hospitality, the property has energy-efficient features, including heat pumps for hot water and a fully electrified kitchen with induction cooking, eliminating gas use.

The hotel’s electricity is sourced entirely from renewable energy, ensuring no use of fossil fuels.

Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre general manager Jens Brandin said: “To introduce the Radisson brand to this vibrant and buzzing city is a very exciting moment. What’s more, we are immensely proud to achieve Verified Net Zero status, proving our dedication to delivering the pinnacle of sustainable hotel stays.

“Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre is more than just a place to stay; it’s a destination where guests can relax, rejuvenate and experience the best that Manchester has to offer with a minimal environmental impact.”

In addition, Radisson Hotel Group has partnered with Sweden-based specialised partner Klimato to develop low-carbon menus for dining options, with carbon footprints labelled from A to E.

The hotel also adheres to waste minimisation principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

The hotel’s carbon footprint covers energy use, operational and supply chain emissions, and is compensated through nature-based carbon credits in partnership with Agreena.

Radisson RED in Oslo, another net-zero hotel, is set to open in July.

Radisson Hotel Group’s chief sustainability and security officer Inge Huijbrechts said: “With the opening of our first two Verified Net Zero hotels, Radisson Hotel Group demonstrates its commitment to Net Zero 2050 and showcases truly sustainable hospitality.

“For the first time, we focus on reducing emissions from energy, operations and the supply chain. As we face the evolving challenge of climate change, Radisson Hotel Group is taking an essential step in reshaping the future of hospitality, one Verified Net Zero hotel at a time.”

The new net-zero property enhances Radisson Hotel Group’s local portfolio, which includes a Radisson Blu property at Manchester Airport and The Edwardian Manchester, a Radisson Collection hotel.

In addition, Radisson revealed a partnership earlier this year with Manchester City for The Medlock, a new four-star hotel.
