Scandic Hotels Group has unveiled plans to open a new hotel in Stockholm’s Globe area in 2028, following an agreement to convert an existing office building.

The company has signed a long-term, revenue-based lease with Corem Property Group for the project.

Scandic Hotels Group chief development officer Jesper Engman said: “The project is a strong example of how Scandic can work with property owners to unlock the potential of existing properties in attractive locations.

“Together with Corem, we are developing a hotel that meets the area’s established event demand while appealing to a broad mix of guests throughout the year.”

The hotel will cater to visitors attending concerts, sporting events and other leisure activities in the Swedish capital.

It will have 320 rooms, including around 40 larger rooms and suites on the top floor. Several of these larger rooms will include private terraces and panoramic views.

Facilities are expected to include meeting space, a wellness area, a gym, a restaurant and bar, parking, and dedicated areas for events and activities.

The building is planned to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating. Hotel operations are also expected to meet the requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel sustainability certification.

Scandic Hotels Group president and CEO Jens Mathiesen said: “Our growth strategy is focused on strengthening our presence in attractive locations with long-term demand potential.

“Stockholm is an important market for Scandic, and this hotel gives us a strong position in a growing district where events, business and leisure come together.

“It is a clear example of how we are selectively expanding our portfolio to capture demand and support our continued growth.”

Earlier this week, Scandic acquired Dalata Hotel Group’s hotel operations for €500m ($559m) on a cash-free and debt-free basis.
