Luxury boutique hotel group Songtsam has opened its first low-carbon hotel, the Songtsam Linka Retreat Lake Basong Tso, in Jieba Village, Tibet.

Expected to officially open in mid-September, the new hotel will be the company’s largest and 16th property overall.

The Songtsam Linka Retreat Lake Basong Tso will feature 122 rooms and suites ranging from 36m² to 105m² size, with each bedroom boasting a diffused oxygen supply system.

It will also include an Arc’teryx co-branded living room, a spa, a restaurant, a gym, a bar, a lobby bar and a boutique.

Songtsam further noted that a diffused oxygen supply system has also been installed in the spa and gym.

The property will also comprise a conference room, which can accommodate medium and large-sized events for up to 70 people.

Songtsam stated that the Songtsam Linka Retreat Lake Basong Tso’s design was inspired by the Cuogao Village’s settlement style.

It also noted that the new hotel is a result of a strategic cooperation framework deal signed with Siemens Energy last year.

This collaboration is to promote green and low-carbon circular development in rural areas.

Songtsam said that the energy consumption at the Songtsam Linka Retreat Lake Basong Tso is offset by using self-generated electricity and reducing carbon emissions by utilising the abundant solar energy in the region.

In 2021, the company and Schneider Electric launched a zero-carbon hotel project at Songtsam properties in Tibet and Yunnan Provinces of China.
