In February 2025, Madrid’s hotel sector posted some of its strongest performance numbers in history, thanks in no small part to the city’s hosting of UEFA Champions League fixtures.
These high-stakes football matches attract thousands of fans from around the world, resulting in a surge of visitors to the city.
On 19 February, when Real Madrid faced Manchester City, the hotel industry saw a peak in its performance metrics. The city’s hotel occupancy hit an impressive 84.9%, meaning nearly 85% of hotel rooms in Madrid were booked on this day.
Alongside this, the Average Daily Rate (ADR), which is the average price of a hotel room, reached EUR 182.47. This was a significant jump compared to other months, indicating that visitors were willing to pay more for the convenience and excitement of being in Madrid during such a major event.
Similarly, a week earlier, on 8 February, when Real Madrid played Atlético Madrid, hotel occupancy was just shy of 82%. This match also resulted in strong performance, with ADR at EUR 171.63, further demonstrating the draw of these high-profile matches for fans and tourists alike.
Iberzoo Propet and consistent high occupancy
However, it wasn’t just football that drove hotel performance in Madrid during February. The Iberzoo Propet trade fair, which took place between 25 and 28 February, also played a key role.
This major event, which focuses on the pet industry, attracted many professionals and business visitors from around the world. The trade fair alone helped raise Madrid’s hotel occupancy to 80.9%, with ADR reaching EUR 162.20 and RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room) climbing to EUR 125.91.
The success of both the Champions League matches and the Iberzoo Propet event reflects Madrid’s versatility as a destination, catering to both sport-loving visitors and business professionals.
The city’s strong performance wasn’t just limited to these peak days, though. Throughout February, the city saw consistent hotel occupancy rates above 60%, with only three days falling below this threshold.
This suggests that Madrid remains a highly sought-after location for a wide variety of visitors, even on non-event days.
Sustained growth for Madrid’s hospitality sector
This stellar performance is a clear indicator that Madrid’s hotel industry is thriving. The city’s ability to attract both major events and a steady stream of tourists is crucial to its success.
As more international events and global businesses flock to Madrid, its hospitality sector is poised to continue its upward trajectory.
