Viva Resorts by Wyndham has achieved the Wyndham Green programme certification after more than two decades of implementing various green initiatives.

This achievement is in line with its strategy of ensuring its properties operate efficiently while also reducing their impact on the environment.

Viva Resorts by Wyndham corporate director for marketing and public relations Erika Sordo said: “Sustainability and giving back to the community has always been part of Viva’s DNA.

“We strongly believe in protecting the environment and especially our oceans. This latest achievement is one more step in underscoring our decades-long commitment to green and clean energy initiatives.”

The Wyndham Green certification is awarded for implementing various measures, including a recycling programme, installation of energy-efficient lighting, utility tracking and communication with guests on the environment.

It aims to protect the environment, foster education and sports, promote health and help local communities with responsible tourism.

This certification highlights the brand’s efforts to protect the communities in which it operates and the environment.

In 2003, Viva Resorts by Wyndham achieved Blue Flag Beach status at Viva Dominicus Beach and Viva Dominicus Palace by Wyndham for its environmental and sustainability efforts.

The Blue Flag certification is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education for having achieved its environmental management standards with regard to water quality, safety and public environmental education.

Viva Resorts by Wyndham, which has resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, has introduced several environmentally friendly initiatives in the Dominican Republic.

Sordo further said: “When it comes to our promise of protecting the environment and the communities we engage with, we count on the tremendous efforts of our staff, who tirelessly encourage, educate and motivate the Viva team to do their part.

“We also remain wholeheartedly grateful to our guests who have for years participated in the initiatives, expressing their satisfaction with them, and whose hopes for the environment and our communities are in perfect alignment with our own.”
