IHG Hotels & Resorts has revealed plans to open the first dual-branded voco and Holiday Inn Hotel in downtown Chicago, US.
The company will repurpose an existing Holiday Inn hotel, which has been a Chicago landmark for over four decades, into the dual-branded property.
Currently, the hotel is under renovation and a portion of the building will be converted into a voco hotel.
The landmark River North hotel is owned by Murphy Development Group.
IHG development senior vice-president Julienne Smith said: “Chicago is one of the most dynamic cities in the world and most popular travel destinations in the US.
“We believe the millions of travellers who visit this exciting part of the city each year will welcome the choice between Holiday Inn, the most trusted hotel brand in the US, and the upscale refinement of voco.
“We congratulate Murphy Development Group on their vision for this project and look forward to working with them to bring this unique hotel to life.”
On completion of the transformation project, the dual branded hotel will feature a total of 521 rooms, a lobby, restaurants and 22,500ft2 of meeting space, a fitness centre and indoor pool.
Slated to open in 2022, the property will continue to be operated by Chicago-based hotel management firm Hostmark.
voco, a premium brand from IHG, currently has 19 operating properties and 29 more in the development pipeline.
Recently, the brand made its debut in the Netherlands by unveiling a seven-storey 204-room hotel.
voco also has properties in New York City, St. Augustine, Florida, and Columbia, Missouri that are already open or coming soon.
