Whitbread has reached an agreement with Riverstone Hotels to open a new Premier Inn hotel at Edinburgh Airport in Scotland.

The proposed 200-bedroom facility aims to enhance Premier Inn’s presence, catering to the needs of travellers frequenting Scotland airport.

The development plan includes a ground plus four-storey hotel, currently under consultation by Whitbread and its development partner.

A planning application is expected to be submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council early next year.

If approved, the hotel’s proximity to the airport terminal will be a ten-minute walk connecting guests to their flights.

The hotel, which Premier Inn will operate on a leasehold basis, is set to feature the latest style bedrooms, including Premier Plus rooms, and a welcoming ground floor space known as ‘The Social’.

The proposed L-shaped building on Eastfield Road will also include 100 on-site parking spaces for guests.

The new hotel will run entirely on electricity from renewable sources and is designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating.

Public consultation events are scheduled for 19 November and 17 December at The Pavilion, Royal Highland Centre, to discuss the third Premier Inn at Edinburgh Airport.

Whitbread Acquisitions manager Jill Anderson said: “The investment case for expanding Premier Inn at Edinburgh Airport is compelling. Close to 14.5 million passengers chose to travel from the airport in 2023, an increase of almost 30% on the year before, and aircraft movements are increasing especially to international destinations.

“As the airport continues to succeed and grow, so are we.  We have recognised an opportunity to expand our network in the catchment and bring the popular Premier Inn brand within walking distance of the airport terminal building.  It’s another exciting location for our guests and a further example of Whitbread’s strategy of investing in strategic locations where we see a bright future.”

This expansion follows the recent announcement of the Premier Inn in the north of England at Manchester Airport, set to open in September 2024.
