The Mykonos Grand is a five-star luxury hotel and resort on the island of Mykonos in Greece and is situated about three miles (4.2km) from Mykonos Town, on Ayios Ioannis, which is one of the island’s most famous beaches and where the film Shirley Valentine was filmed. The hotel, which is based around a series of traditional whitewashed buildings with blue shutters, has 100 designer rooms in 20 acres of landscaped gardens, which capture the essence of the traditional island culture.

Although the hotel is proud of its traditional atmosphere, it also has high-tech amenities such as complimentary Wifi internet access, and iPod and laptop rental. All of the resort’s rooms and suites were refurbished in 2006 and new additions to the property for the 2008 season include the new, designer White Bar.

Facilities

The hotel has a range of luxury facilities including a seawater swimming pool, children’s pool, private beach area with chairs, umbrellas and drinks service, shopping complex, sundecks, tennis courts, large outdoor chessboard, squash courts and gymnasium. The resort’s Althea Spa Centre is located opposite the sacred island of Delos, one of the sunniest areas in the world.

According to Greek Mythology the god Apollo was born on Delos. The Althea Thalassotherapy spa is named after the Greek goddess of healing and includes a multitude of treatments by famous brands such as Thalgo, Carole Franck, Phytomer and Refectocil. Treatments include facials for men and women, massages, aromatherapy, synergies, body scrubs, waxing and rituals. Treatment rooms include mud bath, steam and sauna.

In addition there are three bars, Azzuro, Pool and White, offering a full 24-hour drinks service, and two well-appointed restaurants, the poolside Aqua e Sole, which serves light Mediterranean lunches and snacks, and the Dolphins of Delos, which serves Greek and International food and is also based around al fresco dining, but offers more substantial cuisine. The Aqua e Sole can host up to 150 for banquets and the Dolphins of Delos can host up to 350 for seated events. The pool area may also be configured for seated events of up to 400 and the Amphitheatre can host 60 for table seating.

There is also a business centre with full multimedia facilities including video wall, video recording, ISDN lines, Wifi and full secretarial services, which can host 350 delegates in the Delos complex and 230 in an outside amphitheatre. The amphitheatre is also used for performances for guests during high season.

Rooms

There are three levels of rooms and a further three levels of suite accommodation on offer. These are: the garden view room, sea view room, superior room, executive suite (90 m²) (private Jacuzzi), suite with private pool (75 m²) and deluxe suite with private pool (185 m²), which also has three 32in TVs, steam cabin, Jacuzzi and treadmill. All accommodation has a terrace or balcony, individual control air conditioning, marble floors, satellite TV, mini-bar, free Wifi access and marble bathroom.

Bedrooms are defined by a typical Mykonian arch and also feature floors of the finest quality Greek marble. Superior rooms offer spa-like bathrooms decorated with marble and exquisite mosaics, and equipped with a steam room and large Jacuzzi. The suites also have a DVD player, 27-32in flat-screen TV, stereo system and wet bar. Suites can request a personal barbecue chef to prepare meals. There are also specially decorated honeymoon rooms.
