History of Ganchos

The resort is located in Ganchos de Fora, which according to local legend, was named after the pirate Captain Hook (locally known as Captain Ganchos). There is another theory that says that the name is derived from the hooks used by fishermen to carry fish. Another likely reason is that the peninsula’s three bays are connected resembling three hooks.

The municipality of Governador Celso Ramos has 12,000 inhabitants and the main occupation is still fishing and related activities. Tourism is a growing industry.
