Ashford acquires Sofitel Chicago Water Tower for $153m

Ashford Hospitality signed a definitive agreement to acquire the four-star hotel Sofitel Chicago Water Tower in the US for $153m.

Situated on the Gold Coast submarket of Chicago, Illinois, the four-star hotel features 415 rooms, more than 10,000ft² of meeting space and will be managed by Sofitel.

Sofitel Chicago Water Tower’s 415 rooms include 32 suites and one presidential suite, all of which feature Sofitel’s luxurious feathertop and duvet sleep system SoBed, while its 10,000ft² of meeting space includes a 4,592ft² ballroom, eight meeting rooms and a private dining room with an open kitchen.

Carlson Rezidor to introduce two new hospitality brands

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group announced plans to launch two new global hotel brands: Radisson Red, a ‘lifestyle select’ brand, and Quorvus Collection, a collection of luxury hotels.

The hotel group plans to open more than 60 Radisson Red hotels and 20 hotels under the Quorvus Collection by 2020.

The Radisson Red brand is expected to create a new industry category, ‘lifestyle select’, an upscale, select service concept with an increased focus on design and detail, the customer experience, personal interaction, personal choice and recognition of the role that technology plays in everyday life.

Hyatt Hotels to open first Andaz branded hotel in Germany


A Hyatt Hotels affiliate signed a deal with Jost Hurler Group to open a new Andaz branded hotel in Munich, Germany.

The new Andaz Munich, which will be the first Andaz-branded hotel in Germany, is expected to be opened in 2017 and will increase the brand’s presence in Europe to three hotels.

Planned to be developed in a cultural district of Schwabinger Tor in central Munich, the new 274-room hotel will be located between Leopoldstrasse and Berlinerstrasse, and will be part of a mixed use site including residential apartments, shops, offices, theatres and restaurants.

SpringHill Suites by Marriott launches new hotel in California, US


Marriott International launched a new SpringHill Suites by Marriott property, the SpringHill Suites San Diego Oceanside/Downtown in California, US.

Situated at North Myers Street, the new hotel is owned by GF Properties Group and managed by Sage Hospitality of Denver, Colorado.

The 149-suite property located in downtown Oceanside offers convenient access to Camp Pendleton, Oceanside Pier, Mission San Luis Rey and Legolandò California.

Pan Pacific Hotels to introduce PARKROYAL brand in China

Pan Pacific Hotels Group signed management agreements for two forthcoming hotels in China, the PARKROYAL Chengdu and the Pan Pacific Zhuhai.

The company has agreed to manage the Xinyuan Holding Group’s new hotel, the PARKROYAL Chengdu, which is scheduled to open in 2017.

PARKROYAL Chengdu will have 360 guestrooms featuring amenities like an all-day dining restaurant, speciality restaurant, poolside bar and restaurant, lobby bar and lounge, ballroom as well as meeting spaces.

Steigenberger to open new InterCityHotel hotel in the Netherlands


Germany-based hospitality group Steigenberger Hotels announced plans to develop a new hotel under its InterCityHotel brand, the InterCityHotel Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.

Slated to be completed by 2017, the new hotel is already under construction and is expected to appeal to both leisure and business travellers.

The hotel will have 440m² of conference facilities featuring five rooms and a pre-function section for meetings and events, while a restaurant and a 162m² Bistro Lounge will serve the culinary needs of its guests.

IHG to open new Staybridge Suites property in Saudi Arabia


InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) signed an agreement with Al Khorayef & Sons to manage the Staybridge Suites hotel for 20 years in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

The Staybridge Suites Al Khobar property will represent the first Staybridge Suites property in Al Khobar and the third hotel to be launched in Saudi Arabia.

With the launch of the new 189-key Staybridge Suites hotel, the hospitality group expects to address the growing demand for extended stay properties in Al Khobar following its rising popularity as the regional and international business hub on Saudi Arabia’s east coast.

Hilton Worldwide opens Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf Resort in UAE


Hilton Worldwide opened the Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf Resort in the Ras Al Khaimah Al Hamra district of Dubai, UAE.

The move follows the completion of a two-year refurbishment of the 265-room property, formerly known as Al Hamra Fort & Beach Resort.

Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf Resort has 181 villas and suites, 75 deluxe guest rooms as well as nine luxurious suites.

Pullman opens third hotel in Vietnam


Pullman, the upscale hotel brand of Accor, opened its third property in Vietnam, as part of its expansion plans.

Located in Ho Chi Minh City, close to Ben Thanh Market and major tourist attractions, the new Pullman Saigon Centre features 306 rooms including 17 suites, a Fit and Spa Lounge, four bars and restaurants, five meeting venues for business event and functions, and a pool.

Pullman Saigon Centre offers the brand’s signature services like Welcomer, free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the property, Quadriga’s Personal Media Network mobile application, the co-meeting offer for business events and functions, the Pullman bed, a walk-in rain shower, Vinoteca by Pullman, and a Fit and Spa Lounge.

JW Marriott to open largest hotel in Austin, US

JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts will open the JW Marriott Austin, the largest hotel in Austin and the largest JW Marriott hotel in the US, on 1 March 2015.

The hospitality group has reached the final construction height for the new 1.2 million squared feet hotel following the start of construction in August 2012.

The 34-storey JW Marriott Austin is designed to house large conventions and meetings with more than 112,000ft² of event space, 42 meeting rooms, as well as 1,012 guest rooms.
