Hilton has signed an expanded agreement with Tesla for the deployment of up to 20,000 Tesla Universal Wall Connectors at its 2,000 hotels in North America, starting in early 2024.

This initiative will make Hilton’s electrical vehicle (EV) charging network the largest of any hospitality business.

Hotels in the US, Canada and Mexico will have at least six chargers each, attracting EV travellers.

The latest announcement comes following the recent introduction of Tesla’s Universal Wall Connector, which is designed to seamlessly charge all North American vehicle models.

Hilton already had a deal with Tesla in 2017 for the installation of Tesla level 2 chargers, also called Tesla Wall Connectors, at over 200 hotel locations, according to Electrek.

Hilton chief brand officer Matt Schuyler said: “Through this expanded agreement with Tesla, we are significantly changing the landscape of universal EV chargers in North America in an incredibly short amount of time.

“Across Hilton’s family of award-winning brands, this network of EV chargers will offer our guests even more value with the convenience of much-needed overnight charging access in more locations.”

Tesla senior director of charging infrastructure Rebecca Tinucci said: “To ensure EV adoption at scale, our joint industry goal must be to vastly improve upon the traditional gasoline vehicle ownership experience, not just meet it.

“Installing infrastructure at popular destinations, like Hilton hotels, enables EV owners to charge where they park, meaning no unnecessary refuelling stops along their journey. We applaud Hilton for their leadership in the space and look forward to continuing to ramp this critical programme with other industry leaders.”

Hilton has a large number of hotels located near roadways and in key cities across North America, enabling it to offer widespread charging access for travellers on long-haul trips.

The hotel company’s website has seen an increase in searches for hotels with EV chargers, highlighting the growing demand for EV charging among travellers in 2023.

With a commitment to creating a positive impact on people and the planet, Hilton’s Travel with Purpose platform offers eco-conscious travellers the option to reduce their travel’s environmental impact.
