The Banyan Tree Phuket is located in Bang Tao Bay on the north-western coast of Phuket, Thailand. The eco-friendly resort stands on the site of a former pewter mine and has restored the natural elements of the area.
The resort includes 150 villas, eight restaurants and bars, four meeting rooms, a dedicated spa and fitness facility and an 18-hole golf club.
The resort’s villas are set between the Andaman Sea and a saltwater lagoon. The two-bed, double-pool villas open out to a private pool and have a dining patio. The double-pool villas have tropical fragrant gardens, a tropical-style wade pool and an outdoor sala.
The secluded 24 pool villas are located against the backdrop of Bang Tao Bay and have the same amenities as the double-pool villas. The villas come with a dining and living area, two bedroom suites, a kitchenette and a meditation sala with poolside terrace. Guests can relax in a private swimming pool, outdoor jet pool and open-air sunken bath.
The spa pool villas have a floating bed pavilion on a lily pond. The pavilion has a king-sized bed draped in Thai silk with a canopy ceiling made of soft fabrics. The villa features a dedicated in-villa spa that offers complimentary massages. The villa also comes with a private pool, jet pool, an outdoor shower and a sunken bath.
The deluxe villas have landscaped gardens encircling an open-air jet pool and a timber sundeck. The villas have a large bedroom and an en-suite bathroom with separate his-and-hers private dressing areas.
The non-smoking, 56-seat Saffron restaurant specialises in Thai cuisine and is only open for dinner. The Watercourt, encircled by the lagoon, offers an American-Asian buffet breakfast and an international menu for dinner. The Banyan Café, overlooking the Laguna Phuket golf club, offers snacks and drinks. The Tamarind Restaurant serves seafood lunch and dinner menus and can accommodate 30 people. The Sala Terrace serves Thai-fusion dishes and has a stocked wine cellar.
The Wine Rack is a private area used by guests for parties and is adjacent to the lobby bar terrace. A pool bar serves fruit cocktails.
The resort provides an exclusive dining experience for two people underneath a banyan tree, overlooking the lagoon, accompanied by Thai music.
The resort has opened a tropical garden spa facility focusing on Asian therapies and yoga. The pavilions are recreations of royal Thai salas.
Massages and treatments at the spa include Asian blend, Thai Classic, Sukhotai, Turmeric and Honey Cleanser, Herbal Enhancer and Aloe and Lavender Healer. Ayurvedic massages and treatments include Abhyangam, Shirodhara and Ela Kizhi. The spa also provides regular yoga sessions, pilates and meditation.
The spa opened the Banyan Tree Spa Academy Phuket in 2001 to train therapists exclusively for spa facilities across Banyan Tree hotels and resorts. As of December 2009, Banyan Tree Spa academies have been set up in the UK, Indonesia, Thailand and China.
The resort includes four meeting rooms. The 88m2 Banyan Room accommodates up to 80 people.
The Laguna Phuket Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 course that features a number of lagoons and coconut groves. The club has a teaching centre with a full-length driving range, putting greens, practice bunkers and chipping areas.
The resort has a 40m-long lap pool, a rapid water canal and a free-form pool. Guests can also play tennis on the resort’s three tennis courts. Book lovers can spend time in the resort’s library, which holds a collection of books, magazines, newspapers and CDs.
