The Clement Monterey is a luxury hotel, which opened in May 2008, in Monterey Bay, California, US. The 208-room hotel, the first new luxury hotel built in the area in the last 20 years, is owned by Cannery Row Hotel Development Venture and is managed by Pacific Hotel Management. In 2007 the hotel was signed to the InterContinental brand by InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.

The $80m hotel comprises three adjoining buildings and was constructed on the site of the old Del Mar Canning Company next to the Monterey Bay Aquarium on the northern Californian coast, 120 miles south of San Francisco.

Clement Monterey facilities

The hotel has a full range of amenities for guests, including 11,000ft² of indoor meeting space (nine break-out rooms varying from 400ft² to 600ft²) and 5,000ft² of outdoor meeting space, arranged with two fire pits for outdoor events.

The hotel also features the 3,400ft² Pacific Ballroom, which can accommodate 350 guests, and the 2,400ft² Ocean Terrace Ballroom accommodating 250 guests. The ballrooms are ideal for weddings, conferences and social events.

The hotel’s fitness centre has the latest weight training and cardiovascular equipment. Other sports facilities include an outdoor lap pool, a whirlpool Jacuzzi and a range of activities such as golf and trekking.

There is also a VIP kids club, a business centre and a library. The hotel also has a 17,000ft² retail area, operated by the Cannery Row Company.

Energia Body Centre Spa

The Clement Monterey Hotel features the Energia Body Centre Spa, which includes five treatment rooms, a sauna and a steam room, and provides services inspired from Ayurveda.

A wide range of treatments are offered for skin, body, hands and feet, and include aloe vera herbal body treatment, facials, sacred stone massage and sole reviver.

Accommodation at The Clement Monterey

The four-storey Clement Monterey hotel has 208 guestrooms of which 128 are single bedrooms, 62 are double bedrooms and 18 are suites categorised into executive club level and standard.

Around 152 of the rooms are furnished with fireplaces and the majority have ocean views and balconies.

All rooms have either a king-sized bed or two double beds and feature connecting doors to adjacent rooms.

Hotel amenities

A wide range of amenities are offered in the hotel including plasma TVs, stereo and a 24-hour room service. The rooms also feature a mini fridge, hair dryer, ironing board, iPod docking stations, outlet adapters Wi-Fi internet access and writing desks. Room kitchens have coffee makers and mini bars.

Clement Monterey restaurants

C is the main hotel waterfront restaurant, while the bar C Food to Go provides light meals and sandwiches. The Pacific View Courtyard has two fire pits and serves drinks and light meals.

The hotel lobby was designed to provide a warm and well-appointed atmosphere with its own fireplace and contemporary decor. It also features a quiet bar off to one side for guest use.

Hotel construction

The Clement Monterey was designed by HKS Glazier Studio of Palo Alto, while the interior designer was Alamosa Design Associates of San Francisco.

The general contractor for the project was Devcon Construction of Milpitas and the construction manager was TM Davis of San Francisco.

The hotel consists of two four-storey buildings, a 126,000ft² main building, which has 111 rooms, and a second 79,902ft² building with 98 rooms. The two buildings are connected by an enclosed second-floor pedestrian bridge, which allows access to a four-storey parking garage with space for 347 vehicles. The project began in August 2006.
