Ground has been broken on a new five-star International Conference Centre Hotel in Enugu, Nigeria.
Enugu Governor Dr. Peter Mbah officiated the groundbreaking ceremony.
During this ceremony, the Governor also inspected the Enugu International Conference Centre, which has been long abandoned but is now being completed and modernised.
The centre has the capacity to accommodate 5000 individuals.
According to the project consultant Adibe Njoku, the hotel is expected to complement the conference centre.
The hotel will house 335 rooms, including 224 single rooms, 64 business suites, 25 diplomatic suites, and two presidential suites, the Governor noted.
It is said to have all the amenities expected of a five-star hotel.
China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has been selected to execute the construction of the project.
The five-star property is expected to transform Enugu into a hub for investment, business, tourism, and leisure.
It is intended to expand the state’s economy from its current $4.4bn to $30bn within four to eight years.
The state government has committed to providing all necessary support to ensure the timely completion of the hotel without cost hike.
Governor Dr. Peter Mbah said: “We have been assured by the contractor that this project will be ready in eleven months. So, we are hoping to come here by April next year to commission this project. We are going to be on them and we have been assured that they are going to work day and night because we are hoping that the International Conference Centre where work is already going on will be ready a few months from now.
“We want to optimise the Conference Centre and we have been assured that there will be no variation and there will be no time overrun.”
