IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has reported significant expansion within the UK and Ireland (UK&I) by finalising agreements for eight new hotels.

These additions will introduce more than 900 rooms to strategic locations, including Leeds, London, and Reading.

The portfolio of new properties encompasses various IHG brands. Notably, the Luxury & Lifestyle category will be represented by Hotel Indigo, while Crowne Plaza will enhance the Premium segment.

This expansion also marks the debut signings for IHG’s Garner hotels within the market. Garner was introduced approximately a year and a half ago as part of IHG’s Essentials collection.

These recent signings serve to bolster IHG’s presence in the UK&I region. Currently, the group operates 362 hotels there and has an additional 25 properties in development.

IHG’s growth is also reflected in its premium conversion brand, voco, with a UK and Ireland pipeline nearly as large as half of its currently open hotels.

The new midscale conversion brand, Garner hotels, boasts a pipeline three times the size of its current footprint.

Moreover, the Holiday Inn Express brand has launched its new Generation 5 public space design, adding to the momentum of IHG’s expansion.

IHG Hotels & Resorts UK&I vice president and managing director Joanna Kurowska said: “This growth is powered by our strong enterprise, which positions IHG as the first choice for owners, as well as the guests we welcome, and colleagues who work with us. From innovating our brands and new hotel technology, to the ever-increasing appeal and growth of our IHG One Rewards loyalty programme, we continuously look to deepen guest experiences and deliver more business to our hotels.

“I am particularly encouraged to see two new IHG hotels come to London – a city where we are seeing healthy growth. All of this fantastic progress positions us well for a successful long-term future across the country, and I look forward to seeing us welcome guests to all of these wonderful hotels.”

The recent signings cover various segments, including the Luxury & Lifestyle brand Hotel Indigo, which will see a new 107-room property in Leeds, set to open in the second quarter of 2025.

The Premium segment will welcome voco London – Marylebone and voco Rockingham Forest Corby, with openings slated for the second half of 2024 and late 2025, respectively, in England.

The Essentials segment includes the addition of Garner hotels in Preston Samlesbury launched earlier this month, Reading – City Centre, and Nottingham – City Centre, along with a new Holiday Inn Express in London – Woolwich, which is set to become a flagship for the brand upon its opening in late 2029.

In April 2023, IHG also announced the introduction of the Vignette Collection in the UK with The Halyard at Ropewalks Liverpool.
