Tourism & leisure industry M&A deals in June 2019 total $22.27bn globally

Total tourism & leisure industry M&A deals in June 2019 worth $22.27bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 268.9% over the previous month and a rise of 508.6% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $3.66bn.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $18.47bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $18.47bn.

In terms of volumes, Europe emerged as the top region for tourism & leisure industry M&A deals globally, followed by North America and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in June 2019 was the US with 26 deals, followed by the UK with 11 and France with seven.

In 2019, as of the end of June 2019, tourism & leisure M&A deals worth $38.2bn were announced globally, marking a decrease of 2.3% year on year.

Tourism & leisure industry M&A deals in June 2019: Top deals

The top five tourism & leisure industry M&A deals accounted for 94.5% of the overall value during June 2019.

The combined value of the top five tourism & leisure industry M&A deals stood at $21.04bn, against the overall value of $22.27bn recorded for the month. The top announced tourism & leisure industry M&A deal tracked by GlobalData in June 2019 was Eldorado Resorts’ $17.3bn acquisition of Caesars Entertainment.

In second place was the $2.83bn stake acquisition of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels by Agapier Investments and in third place was Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s $375m acquisition of ICR Cyprus.

The $275m asset transaction with Remington Holdings by Ashford and Cedar Fair’s asset transaction with Schlitterbahn Waterparks for $261m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
