
The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 0.5% rise in IT hiring activity in May 2022 over the previous month, led by The Walt Disney’s 12.74% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.21% when compared with April 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.11% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, down 0.17% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 3.54% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 9.11% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 60.52% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in May 2022, a 3.7% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 16% in May 2022, down 28.64% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.74% share in May 2022, a growth of 29.33% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 5.81% share in May 2022 and a rise of 6.06% over April 2022.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in May 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 13.16% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during May 2022 over April 2022.
The Walt Disney posted 230 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a rise of 2.22% over the previous month, followed by Uber Technologies with 198 jobs and a 76.79% growth. Booking Holdings with 159 IT jobs and A.P. Moller – Maersk with 123 jobs, recorded an 8.9% growth and a 24.24% rise, respectively, while Expedia Group recorded a 37.25% drop with 64 job postings during May 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 52.1% share, which marked a 9.34% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 22.81%, registering a 1.73% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 21.76% share and a 29.7% rise over April 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.27% and a month-on-month rise of 41.38%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.05%, registering a 5.56% increase over the previous month.
