The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 6.5% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2022 over the previous month, led by The Walt Disney’s 12.25% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.29% when compared with January 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.94% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in February 2022, up 0.46% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of February 2022 were 4.81% higher when compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 12.5% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 63% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in February 2022, a 26.2% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 12.41% in February 2022, up 1.63% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 11.15% share in February 2022, a growth of 13.95% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 5.96% share in February 2022 and a drop of 22.17% over January 2022.

Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in February 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 38.86% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during February 2022 over January 2022.

The Walt Disney posted 368 IT jobs in February 2022 and registered a rise of 13.58% over the previous month, followed by A.P. Moller – Maersk with 173 jobs and a 2.37% growth. Expedia Group with 173 IT jobs and United Parcel Service with 150 jobs, recorded an 118.99% growth and a 48.51% rise, respectively, while Booking Holdings recorded a 195.56% rise with 133 job postings during February 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in February 2022 with a 49.02% share, which marked a 17.28% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 26.16%, registering a 2.08% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 19.63% share and a 14.34% rise over January 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 4.49% and a month-on-month rise of 200%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.7%, registering a 32.26% decrease over the previous month.
