North America witnessed an 8.4% drop in IT hiring activity in the travel & tourism industry in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

December 2021 has seen a decrease of 2.99% in the overall hiring activity when compared with November 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 2.65% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2021, registering a decrease of 0.23% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 61.17% in December 2021, a 23.75% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 12.4% in December 2021, marking a 20.92% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 8.91% in December 2021, a 36.03% drop from November 2021.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 8.09% in December 2021, a 5.33% rise over the previous month.

Top five travel & tourism companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 22.33% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s travel & tourism industry during December 2021 over previous month.

The Walt Disney posted 139 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a decline of 24.04% over the previous month, followed by Expedia Group with 60 jobs and a 33.33% drop. United Parcel Service with 49 IT jobs and Enterprise Holdings with 43 jobs, recorded an 113.04% rise and a 42.67% drop, respectively, while American Airlines Group recorded a 28% decline with 36 job postings during December 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s travel & tourism industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s travel & tourism industry IT hiring activity with a 92.73% share in December 2021, a 20.05% decrease over November 2021. Canada featured next with a 5.02% share, down 40.24% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 2.05% share, a drop of 16.67% compared with November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 54.1%, down by 28.65% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 28.48% share, registered a decline of 7.64% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 16.8% share, down 15.9% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.61%, recording a month-on-month growth of 20%.
