InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, a brand of hospitality company IHG Hotels & Resorts, is set to open its first property in Ecuador in 2027.

This marks an expansion for the company’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in South America.

Located in the Samborondón district of Guayaquil, the new hotel aims to cater to both business and leisure travellers. Guayaquil serves as Ecuador’s economic hub and main port.

The development is a partnership with BPO Consulting and will feature 101 guest rooms, including 11 suites.

BPO Consulting said: “We are proud to announce this upcoming luxury property, which marks a significant milestone in our 15-year relationship with IHG. As developers of several IHG properties across various segments, we have witnessed firsthand the strength and support of IHG’s family of brands.

“This new venture not only reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional hospitality, but also underscores our shared vision for growth and market readiness.”

Designed by Semaica, ODD Architects, and Adriana Hoyos Design Studio, the property will offer 610m² of dedicated spaces for social and corporate events, including a ballroom that can accommodate up to 300 guests.

The property will boast a speciality restaurant with skyline views, a poolside lounge, a resort-style rooftop pool, a spa, and a fitness centre.

IHG Hotels & Resorts Americas luxury and lifestyle managing director and senior-vice president Leanne Harwood said: “We’re delighted to bring InterContinental Hotels & Resorts’ first destination to Ecuador, while building upon our long-standing relationship with BPO Consulting.

“The InterContinental brand has long been celebrated for opening doors to new destinations around the world. With its strategic location, world-class amenities and tailored service, InterContinental Guayaquil is poised to offer an exceptional experience for both business and leisure travellers alike when it opens.”

The InterContinental brand currently operates 229 hotels worldwide, with 104 more in the pipeline.

The Americas region has recently seen the addition of InterContinental Indianapolis and InterContinental Presidente Monterrey, with future openings including InterContinental Real Lima Miraflores, InterContinental Orlando, InterContinental Turks & Caicos, and InterContinental Grenada.

Earlier this year, IHG’s Vignette Collection also expanded into South America with the introduction of SOUMA Hotel Lima in Peru, signifying the brand’s growth in the region.
