Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide’s Sheraton Hotels division has opened a new property in Dominican Republic, the Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel.
The company has renovated the former Melia Santo Domingo with an investment of $12m to open the new hotel, which is owned and operated by Hoteles Nacionales.
Under the renovation project, the Sheraton brand signature services and amenities were implemented at the property.
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts global brand leader Hoyt Harper said, "A gathering place for both travellers and local residents, Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel offers all the brand’s signature comforts and amenities, as well as breathtaking water views and proximity to leading attractions."
Located on the waterfront Avenida George Washington, the hotel is in close proximity to the city’s Colonial Center, business district as well as Las Americas International Airport (SDQ). It features 255 rooms and suites offering ocean views.
Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel represents Starwood’s third property in the Dominican Republic and features a large casino, an outdoor swimming pool and five-star dining options.

By GlobalDataThe hotel’s lobby features the signature Link@Sheraton with Microsoft, which is a relaxed space with complimentary wireless broadband, while all guest rooms include the all-white Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed, an oversized work desk, ergonomic chairs, high-speed Internet and 42in flat panel television.
Amenities at the renovated hotel include complimentary breakfast, beverages and evening hors d’oeuvres at its newly renovated Sheraton Club Lounge.
Hoteles Nacionales vice president Paula Lama the company is proud to partner with Starwood Hotels to open the first Sheraton in the Dominican Republic.
"By joining Starwood, we will also connect with more travellers via the powerful Starwood network, including the award-winning Starwood Preferred Guest program," Lama added.
Sheraton Santo Domingo also has 22,500ft² of meeting space, including 11 conference rooms.
Additionally, it features steam rooms, a massage facility, a sauna as well as a renovated fitness centre with the brand’s Sheraton Fitness by Core Performance health and fitness programme.
