Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will expand its Aloft brand portfolio in the US with the scheduled launch of a new hotel in Syracuse, New York, in June 2016.
The new 132-room Aloft Syracuse Inner Harbor, which will be part of a waterfront redevelopment project along the former Barge Canal, will be owned and developed by COR Development and managed by Real Hospitality Group.
COR’s $350m redevelopment of the Inner Harbor will transform the 30-acre waterfront property into a tourism destination.
Starwood Specialty Select Brands senior vice president Brian McGuinness said, "Accelerating demand for Aloft among the next generation of travellers has fuelled the brand’s propulsive growth in markets worldwide."
Aloft Syracuse Inner Harbor will be situated close to a major shopping and entertainment complex, Destiny USA, in addition to NBT Bank Stadium, Syracuse University, SUNY Upstate Medical University and various hospitals in the region.
The property will feature the Aloft brand’s signature W XYZ bar, a splash pool, a fitness centre and 690ft² of meeting space suitable for business meetings as well as social gatherings.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide North America development senior vice president Allison Reid said the new hotel will provide travellers with a fresh new option.
"With its urban design, social atmosphere and innovative programming, Aloft is now a leading choice among owners and the next generation of travellers in markets across North America," Reid added.
Aloft recently announced plans to launch new Smart Check In services at select properties, which will enable guests to use their smartphones to check in and open their guestroom door.
The move follows the first phase launch of Smart Check-In, the first mobile check-in using RFID technology to bypass the front desk, at 14 Aloft properties.
